post No.60 Mark & Mireya

When Mark and Mireya came into Urbanic to choose their wedding invitations, I was astounded by their clear vision and unison on what they had in mind. They both agreed that green and grey were important to them, and wanted something stylish, and forward that would compliment their venue, the Parker Palm Springs. They ended up going with the Metropolitan Muse suite from Wiley Valentine (which is awesome) and even supplying us with the exact pantone color of green that they loved.

These were some of my favorite shots from their wedding day. Somehow the details on Mireyas gorgeous dress, the vintage iron lanterns, and the steel grey brides maid dresses all complimented each other so well. The invitation was a perfect first glimpse into this very special event!

A special congrats to M&M !

post No.58 Loop

At urbanic, we recently got in notecard sets, and gorgeous sheets of wrap from Loop and I can’t stop appreciating the intricate details of these hand drawn and painted designs. It is so refreshing!

Elissa (the artist) has a love of modern design and a passion for the beauty of nature – while being respectful of it. Everything she produces is made with sustainable and earth friendly materials. I found out that she is from Philadelphia (my hometown) which is icing on the cake!

post No.56 Make My Notebook

I woke up this morning and Joshua says to me “you are going to love the google homepage today”. I am guessing it is the first day of fall or something because there are fall leaves around the search box. He was right, I do love it and all things “autumn” in a huge way. So in keeping with the theme, today I am going to highlight some of my favorite notebooks ever invented. They are called “Make My Notebook” and they are hand silk-screened and assembled using recycled materials out of Colorado. I intentionally coordinate getting these in at urbanic in the fall months of each year because the colors are so deep, rich, and harvest jewel- toned.

The picture above are some of the styles we just got in at the store but there are so many amazing styles and colors available…

So I just checked back onto google to see if my leaves were still there and they suddenly are not. This is strange. So either his page was still open from yesterday, or they were just magically there for me.? *

post No.54 The Pier

Things have been kind of stressful lately since our lame annual sales tax hit. We were so bogged down with talk about dollars and paperwork that we decided that we needed to do the opposite and go out and try to have fun. So Joshua and I jumped in the car and took the littlest j to the Santa Monica Pier. It was so cute… his first merry go round ride ever! I loved that it was a beautiful old vintage carousel over looking the ocean and still only cost 50 cents for a nice long ride. This made me feel like all was okay in the world (in combination with the bananna split that we shared). Anyway, yesterday morning I got an email from the the poster list letting me know about their site and the many different graphic posters and postcards they offer. I fell in love with the above 2 and had to post. The one on the left is Santa Monica Pier and the design on the right was our view driving there.

post No.54 Binth City Flats

When I saw Binth at the NYGS I was so excited to see their latest, since they always soar with fresh modern design. They definitely did not disappoint with this primary color collection of city flats. Each one captures a sparkle of its city charm. The set includes Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, London and Berlin.

I would guess I am not alone in having a special affection to the cities that I have learned and experienced the most in. Honestly when I first saw these, I was thinking they were way too awesome to ever send.

But Binth thought of that already and designed a collection of larger ( and different) city prints for framing collecting and loving. Hooray for Binth!

Twice in a row, we lucked out with amazing neighbors at the previous little Venice cottage we lived in. It was instant fun when Ryan and Liz moved in next door to us. We cooked each other dinner, watched each other’s cats, and played board games often. With our basket pulley-system (which hung from a tree above both of our houses and went up and over our separating fence) we swapped things like sugar, beers, notes and pranks. Anyway, we adore them and they recently wed. I had to post because their wedding was phenomenal! It was so them, and so special.

Liz did her wedding invitations at urbanic. I first posted here when she came in because I was in love with her color choice. The wedding was somewhere high up in the Malibu Hills, looking over the Pacific Ocean and all of Los Angeles. We had to park and take a shuttle to get there.

The popcorn bag place cards were definitely a favorite detail of mine! Even more cute look at the back sides!

The reception was catered extravagantly with comfort food. A gourmet burger bar fully equipt with toppings, sweet potato fries and grilled vegetable skewers. For dessert, fresh out-of-the oven cookies with shot glasses of milk and an ice cream sundae bar.

It was such an awesome experience and so visually exciting. It got me thinking about how much I love the creative weddings of today and enjoy working with brides on the stationery details. So, I decided I am going to start posting more in the wedding category. If you are reading this and have some, I would love to see pictures of the creative details of your special day.

Email me here with your photos.

post No.53 Smock.

I ran by Smock at the National Stationery Show in May, but it was one of those crazy moments where there was so much going on- so I just grabbed some info and took off. As I was walking away I was Shocked (with a capital S) at how soft and luxurious the paper felt! When I finally got a chance to investigate further, I was impressed again to find out that all of their entire line is letterpressed on bamboo paper ( a fun and new discovery for me). Anyway, Smock is a completely sustainable company and I really appreciate that they spell out their commitment to the environment in every step of their production process.

We just received their stationery and wedding line at Urbanic, and when I was showing a friend how awesome it was, she was laughing at me and saying that I was holding the book like it was a baby. Not sure if I really was, but I will say that these designs are precious..

They definitely get an A + on these amazing fonts. Some of them are even exclusive.

Smock offers a lot of special little details like edge painting, patterned duplexed backing and hand calligraphy accents. My absolute favorite detail however, are the envelope liners! There are 27 patterns to choose from and 40+ colors you can put them in. Design heaven.

I saved my favorite invitation set for last. I am a huge fan of blind deboss, and mixed with a brown repeat pattern, a splash of color for a scripty font- I’m done!

post No.52 Girl of all Work

Back to school time was always my favorite time of year growing up because I LOVED going to the store to get folders, notebooks, pens, and all kinds of fun school supplies. Even though I am not a student anymore, I still try to award myself with office accessories every September anyway to keep my little tradition alive (i am such a dork, I know). Anyway, I am currently obsessed with “Girl of all Work”, and decided there is nothing more fitting for this post! Someone actually said to me the other day when the shipment arrived… “This stuff is so Urbanic”!

wood seals! wow… enough said.

these fancy journals sets are incredible! I love the idea of chapters.

silk screen owl/wood grain notepads with 100% recycled paper

fabric wrapped button magnets

Kay real quick, here is the story behind the name. “Girl of all work” refers to a domestic servant in the 19th century Europe who did an incredible number of tasks. Dyna (the designer) took the name and put a modern twist to it, to reference all the women of today who juggle a ton of responsibilities.

post No.51 Crests

It all started with these…

This super stylish customer who shops at urbanic was wearing one of these foxman necklaces from brooklyn. I loved it instantly and ordered a few different styles for neighborhood. I am thinking there is something to love about crests. Sure, they are associated with being stuffy or whatever, but really, what other motif could possibly fit so much information into such a small amount of space? Below are some of my favorite crest designs right now…

1. the regional assembly of text logo 2. birthday card by the great lakes 3. greyhound birthday card by pear & marmalade 4. and 6. custom crest designs by yellow owl workshop 5. congratulations card by peculiar pair press

Below a box set of letterpressed lion crest stationery by wiley valentine. I love how the kraft envelope continues the design on the flap.
