post No.779 Urbanic has a Pop-Up Webshop!

As many of you know, Joshua and I have been diligently and excitedly working on building an Urbanic online store.  It’s scheduled for it’s official launch in early 2013, so we thought that in the meantime we’d offer you a temporary Pop Up Shop!  It’s a fun little curated selection with limited quantities. We’ll be adding new things each week to keep it exciting, so feel free to have a peek and browse around. Be sure to click “see all” when you visit, so you can check out what’s been added.  It’s been so neat for us to ship out orders from this.  We love feeling connected with many of you beyond our local neighborhood.  If you’d like to be added to our newsletter list for updates on the official site launch you can sign up here to be one of the first in the know.
Happy Monday all!

Post No.778 Cutting Down Our Christmas Tree

I share a lot on this blog about things going on in the shop, but from time to time I like to put up some of the happenings in our family life as well. This post is really special for me to share with you today as it captures a cherished day in our lives.  A while ago I had heard about a train ride at Fillmore and Western Railway that takes you to a Christmas Tree farm where you can chop down your own tree. This was a totally new experience for us and we thought it would be lots of fun for our little guys – so we bought our tickets!  Our friends Danielle and Kevin of The Why We Love came aboard with us that day and captured the details of our quest to find the perfect tree in these beautiful photos and Super 8 video. We are SO lucky to know them and are completely in love the creative way they captured our experience. Their style of photography is so “us” and it’s such a treat for us to have our family portrait in motion!!  They added a few additional pictures to their blog as well right here. A huge thanks to them for them for being beyond amazing and to Cyd for her sweet post.

post No.773 Rifle Paper Party at Urbanic

It was such an absolute pleasure to have Anna Bond from Rifle Paper Co. come out for a visit to the shop a few weeks ago!  It started out with a fun little chat we had while in NYC together a few months ago and ended up becoming this …

Since the party landed in the midst of the fall season, we had a table spread of seasonal tarts and warm apple cider.

We showcased the latest Rifle collection for holiday & featured an exclusive print of Los Angeles she did for Urbanic!

The little shopping bag in the back of the convertible has our store name on it. (I’m sure it goes without saying how much I adore this little detail!). We still have some prints available in the shop for purchase so come in or call us to get yours. We’ll also have a mini pop up shop online for you to purchase one within the next few weeks if you’d like.

Such a good time was had by all at this charming little event.  Thanks to all of you who came out, and a very special thanks to Joanne Pio for snapping all of these gorgeous photos of the event.

Post No.771 Thanksgiving Cards from Rocket Ink

Okay. Who’s getting in the mood for Thanksgiving? It’s crazy that the holidays have snuck up on us already but I can’t deny my excitement.  Adding to it, are these new cards that just came into the shop from Rocket Ink. The feather card is officially one of my all time favorites and is currently holding some real estate on our mantel.

The Rifle Paper Co. Meet & Greet in the shop was a completely enchanted evening. I speak for myself and I’m sure for Anna, that we had so much fun meeting, mingling (and having tarts) with all of you that came out.  Joshua put this video together of the event and I think it came out crazy adorable. Click below to have a little peek into our party.  OH! and I just got a first look at the photos taken by the amazing Joanne Pio.  I’ll share them with you soon!

post No.769 Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween from our family to yours!

One of the coolest things about this Halloween (besides how squeezable my little elephant was) is the gumball machine costume that Joshua made for Javin. He pulled an all nighter constructing this thing and it came out amazing. We had it rigged up so that people could turn the little dial in the front and Javin would push a gumball through the hole to them from the inside. It ended up that the costume would slide down every time he went to push it, so instead when the people turned the dial, his little hand would come out from around the side with a gumball – analog style. We were cracking up ALL night (as were the recipients!)

Hope your night was a great one.

post No.768 Things of late …

From time to time I share a few things on the blog that I’ve posted on twitter and instagram lately.

We painted pumpkins this year for our Halloween window at the shop

Candy Store corner of Urbanic

Saw this at a coffee shop which led me to meet a local hand-lettering artist.

I stocked up on Farmer’s Market flowers for the Rifle Paper Event we had at the shop.

The invitations we printed for the Rifle Paper Co. party

Cute shoes on the girl in-line next to me at Intellegensia.

Our booth set up at the Abbot Kinney Festival. It was so fun!

Writing thank you cards while eating breakfast.

Ian playing with his trains. I love this stage.

My boys sliding down a hill of leaves.

More of the pumpkins we painted for our Halloween window. (the white one turned into the scalloped on at the very top).

happy monday!

post No.767 Silhouette Artist at Urbanic

Remember last year when we had Karl Johnson come to the shop and cut out silhouettes for everyone? Well it was a HUGE success and I couldn’t be more excited to let you know that he is coming again!  This year he is coming on  November 8th from 11am – 8 pm. He will hand-cut a silhouette for you right there with his scissors.  It’s amazing how he does this free hand. Bring your little ones, a favorite picture, a pet, or yourself and get your silhouette cut. This is such a great gift idea and just in time for the holidays. Silhouettes are $25 each and only take about 3 minutes – so squirmy kids are welcome!  If you’d like to book a time slot call us at the shop – 310.401.0427!  (or email us ) to reserve yours.  Calling is best as they fill up fast!

PS.His video is absolutely adorable. If you haven’t watched it yet, it’s a must!

post No.766 Happy Friday & Another Year.

I celebrated a birthday this past week and it was one of those days where everything that was planned went completely wrong.  I’m proud to say I had a decent attitude about it and as the day went on it got to the point where it was almost comical. That evening I was supposed to go out on a boat through the marina with some good friends.  The boat ended up breaking down so we were landlocked with a sunset picnic!  It ended up being one of the most memorable (and fun) nights of my life. This really got me reflecting on how when things don’t work out the way you planned them to, they often end up even better.

Happy weekend all, and here’s to the curve-balls in life that lead to adventure.
