post No.697 The MaeMae Trunk Show

I feel like I’ve been a bit behind in my blogging lately. (Okay, well I know I have!) I realized this morning that I never posted the photos from the Mae Mae trunk show we had at Urbanic last month. It was a charming afternoon and even though it poured rain that day it didn’t put a damper on any of the fun. The new collection is absolutely adorable. The color stories, the fonts, and the motifs in each collection are completely unique.  If you didn’t get a chance to make it that day to see it, pop into the shop to take a peek. You’ll leave inspired. I promise!

post No.682 Our MaeMae window …

Today I’m thrilled to be highlighting our latest store window display. This month they are dedicated to the upcoming MaeMae trunk show we have coming up next weekend at the shop. The window is a beautiful whirlwind collage of invitations, postage stamps and paper pastries from the creative genius Megan Gonzalez (designer of MaeMae) and her pal Ruthie Auda (window designer extraordinaire). As you can see, the window’s are as sweet as can be and a windstorm of creativity.

post No.680 Urbanic at The Cream

Remember when Urbanic used to host a wedding event called Hitched? Those were some fun times! We jumped out of that project to work on the shop expansion (and create more family time at home) but my event planner partners kept the event going under a new name – The Cream. It’s a full on interactive wedding event party like no other! Look at this line-up of talent!  The next one is March 1st at the Book Bindery in Culver City and we’ll be set up there with a mini pop-up shop and bridal lounge.  We’re giving away tickets to 2 lucky winners so be sure to swing by the shop to drop your name in the drawing, or you can snatch up your tickets here. We’ll be all set up in our neon best for this event, see some of our inspiration below…

Post No.671 Sugar & Fluff installation

In this new year I wanted to show off the talent of some of our amazing designer and planner friends in the form of window installations for Urbanic. I thought it would be fun to handpick folks we work with and have them dream something up for our window –  art gallery style. For Valentine’s day, I chose Sugar & Fluff. Why did I choose them? Because Tarek and Aasim are completely awesome. Their work is stylish, artsy, un-obvious and beyond cool. I knew they would bring an alternative romantic perspective to our window, and that’s exactly what they did.  They installed bursts of bright colored flowers accented by hand painted script stating “Tell Me You’re Mine”. They anchored the window with some dramatic abstract in cool blue tones. I stayed late that night and watched them in action. Amazing. If you live in the area, come by and check it out while it’s still up. The installation comes down on the 15th.   Title: American Beauty.

post No.659 Year’s End Events {pt.2}

Our last party of 2011 was our annual Cocoa & Cupcakes party. Every year our pals over at Snow and Graham fly in from Chicago to get festive with us. Ebony (the owner and director of S&G in the striped dress below) was super pregs and still came out to host the party with all of her creative charm and flair. She hosted a gift topper project social and also decked the place out in S&G paper splendor. It was so fun that all of our guests got to leave with pretty little gift decorations.  Stacia from Frosted Cupcakery brought over the BEST in holiday bite sized sweets. The ‘hi-tops’ in this first picture below are a salted caramel (left) and red velvet (right). These things are mind-blowing good. Mind Blowing. (!) People were huddled around the Frosted cupcakes all night long, and I’m really proud of myself for thinking to hide a few for myself to enjoy once the night was over.  Vosges Haut-Chocolat (pronounced, vohj o- sho-colah) was our hot cocoa sponsor this year and I can honestly say, that I will never ever turn back. I can’t. This stuff is so good that I ended up getting a bunch of it to gift to our loved ones this year. A true indulgence you must experience if you haven’t yet already. Finally, I’m super lucky to have Bonnie Tsang as a good friend.  She is talented beyond measure and I really admire her artistic eye when it comes to capturing moments behind a lens. She took these shots of the party and hosted the event with me throughout the night.  To all of you who came, thanks for coming and celebrating the holidays with us.  Happy New Year everyone!

post No.658 Year’s End Events {pt.1}

It’s hard to believe that this is the last day of the year! In reflecting on 2011 I’m excited about how many neat things have happened here at the shop in the past year.  For my last blog posts before the new year begins, I wanted to highlight some events we recently had at Urbanic.

First up – our Wrap Class. We hosted a small workshop at Urbanic in November that taught the basics of wrapping a perfect gift.  Our own Kay Lee taught the skills to wrap a gift seamlessly and then we had stylist Summer Watkins teach creative embellishing techniques. It was a fun filled creative night (oh, and in addition to serving hot cocoa, I picked up a few new tricks as well!).  A special thanks to Annie Fedrigo for taking these lovely photos.

post No.622 Silhouette Artist at Urbanic!

Okay this is quite possibly one of the coolest events ever at the shop. We have a silhouette artist coming to Urbanic on November 10th from 5-9 pm. He will hand-cut a silhouette for you right there with his scissors. You HAVE to watch the video below. It’s amazing how he does this! Bring your little ones, a favorite picture, a pet, or yourself and get your silhouette cut. This is such a great gift idea and just in time for the holidays. Silhouettes are $25 each and only take about 5 minutes but you need to book a time slot, so email us at the shop to reserve yours!

post No.608 what’s been up

Hey Parcel Post readers, you might be wondering where I’ve been as of late since my blogging has been so sparse these days.  Well, I’m head-deep in multiple projects right now.  Besides my normal work each day for Urbanic  here’s what I’ve been up to …  1. throwing a baby shower for a good friend, 2. planning a baptism for my son  3. working on beautifying the inside and back yard our home and 4. EXPANDING URBANIC!   whooo-hooo!  I use all caps very sparingly, so please know that I am in fact shouting this. I’m shouting it from the rooftops I’m so excited! We have outgrown our tiny space and are tearing down a wall to create more room. There will be more space to shop, more shelves full of product and more room to host our brides and grooms in our bridal lounge.  We will be open for business throughout the expansion so please pardon our dust in the meantime. We expect to be finished sometime in late fall. Until then, I will definitely be keeping you posted!

post No.601 L.A. Pinterest Meetup

I’m so excited to share the video from the Pinterest Meetup we had at Urbanic a few weeks ago. I don’t know about you, but pinning is one of my favorite things, so it was really fun to have Ben and Enid fly in from S.F to host this little shindig. The video below was made by Design Life Cinema. They rule. I especially love the footage of people pinning up little snapshots of themselves on the Pinterest board. It’s all about the little details that make a great party.

Lucky me to stumble upon these below pics and a sweet little write up about the event on a blog called Making me Cranky. Thanks to all of you who came out for the party. It was lovely to meet so many of you!
