post No.719 NSS (2012) modern yet timeless.

For my final post on the NSS, I’m highlighting some favorite finds that are more on the classic side. I really love the timelessness of things like newsprint liners, tasteful fonts, simple line drawings and subtle colors. That being said, everything below is on it’s way in at Urbanic!

post No.717 The Ridge Collection

The ‘Ridge’ collection of men’s stationery by Wednesday is definitely some of the coolest guys cards I have seen in my history of ordering cards! The collection is divided up by type of guy. Shown below are –  The Dapper Gentleman (pic 2)  The Traveler (pic 4) and The Creative (pic 6) but there are also cards for The Outdoorsman and The Intellectual which you can see  here. I have this order coming just in time for Father’s Day so I’ve mixed a few of those into the set as well. Pretty handsome, wouldn’t you say?

post No.715 NSS (2012) full of gold.

For part 2 of my NSS round-up, I’m highlighting how popular gold foiling is this year.  I can’t deny that I’m attracted to sparkly things, so it was kinda fun to see it popping up everywhere.  Metallics were letterpressed on notecards, coasters, notebooks, incorporated into booth displays, printed on business cards, monogrammed stationery, tote bags, and I even spotted it on someone’s nails.  (okay that was a little scary, but the rest was *A-okay).

post No.714 NSS (2012) color everywhere.

The NSS this year was amazing. It was a whirlwind for me to get through it all, but I picked up lots of new lines and was excited by the amount of creativity showcased in all of the the booths. (The last picture in this set is of a booth floor turned rainbow with alternating strips of vinyl tape!)  In the weeks to follow I’ll be highlighting new product as it’s coming into the shop, but for now I’ll give you a peek into some of the things I saw in my trek around the show.  This first round up is all about color.  Color trends were easy to spot; ombre, neons, and color blocking to name a few.

post No.712 Greetings from N.Y.C

Hey all, I’m still in NYC and finding a ton of great stuff at the NSS.  It’s raining here today and I’m about to make my trek to the subway and head over to the Javitz Center. :/  At least it was worth lugging my rain boots across the country! Hope you’re all having a great week.  I’m gonna have a whopper of a job ahead of me documenting all these finds for you!

post No.711 best mail week of 2012

Hello from 30,000 feet in the air!  I’m in flight and headed to the National Stationery Show in NYC. If you’ve read any of my blog posts from years past here + here you’ll know that May is by far the best mail month of the year!

Our mailman has been unloading piles of these beauties onto our counter for the last few weeks. They are invitations sent to us from different designers exhibiting at the show to come and view their new collections.  The envelopes alone are completely awesome. We’re talking address calligraphy, vintage postage stamps, patterned liners … I mean, come on! Does mail get better than this?!

I’ll be posting show features on instagram and twitter for the next 4 days, so stay tuned!

post No.710 Two Days Until …

I’m packing my bags today and heading to NYC in the morning for the NSS (national stationery show).  While there, I’ll be plotting out purchases for Urbanic for the next 6 months and meeting up with many of the amazing designers who’s work we represent in the shop. We’ve been bombarded with a ton of good mail over the last few weeks full of amazing booth invitations.  (be on the look out for post No.711 where I’ll document all of this for you)  The one below is from one of my favorite lines, The Regional Assembly of Text. It has a revolving count-down wheel of days till the show.  2 more days!

post No.707 Happy Mother’s Day

To all of you mommas out there, Happy Mother’s Day! Here’s hoping all of you feel appreciated, celebrated and relaxed on this special day.  Being a mom myself has really made me thankful for the person my mother has been to me throughout my life.  I have so much appreciation and respect for all that she did for me growing up and although I can’t fold sheets as perfectly as she can, I’ve learned quite a bit from her.  It’s an honor for me to now be a mommy to my precious little boys.  It’s definitely a daily challenge to juggle the duties of work and motherhood, so it takes weekly discipline to set aside time to be intentionally present with them and try to separate myself from work completely.  I haven’t mastered this by any means but am determined and committed to continually try my best for them.  I realize that they’ll only be little for such a short time in the grand scheme of life and I want to be with them as much as I can.

Some of my favorite family times are our early morning walks together. We put the boys in the wagon and go on sunrise adventures (for me the destination usually yields coffee!) Anyway, Joshua put this video together the other day of one of our morning strolls so I thought I would share it with you.

post No.706 Mother’s Day Window 2012

This month some of the girls and I hit the shop at 5 am  (okay, so I was like 20 minutes late) to install this window for Mother’s Day.  We took two of our favorite cards from our wall and had them made into posters. The first “Mom” card is by Sass and Perill and the second “Happy Mother’s Day” is by Natalie Eden.  A special thanks to both designers for helping us work this out. We poufed tissue poms, wrapped a ton of presents in pretty black paper and tied them all up with bright cotton ribbons. As a finishing touch, we added a few details to our chalkboard and called it a colorful day.
