post No.749 Wednesday!

Being that today is Wednesday, I thought it would be the most fitting day of the week to showcase our new collection of wedding invitations offered in our bridal lounge. That being said, I’m happy to present to you “Wednesday“! The album is complete with 16 different customizable suites and we are loving their quirky-stylish-cool aesthetic. There is so much character in each set offered that there is even a little personality description that accompanies each suite.  Below are just a few…

First up (above) we have Harvey! There are two things you need to know about Harvey. One, she keeps to herself. Two, when she does speak up, it’s through a megaphone.

Above meet “Clove“. She has a pop-culture references and clever jokes that stretch as wide as the desert she was raised in. Want to hear a joke about a pencil? Nevermind. It’s irrelevant.

And finally we have “Elliot“.  She achieves in everything she tries, except for cooking. By law, she is no longer allowed to cook.

post No.748 New from Linnea’s Lights

Unpacking our latest shipment of Linnea’s Lights in the shop the other day was kind-of like that feeling you get when you take a sip of warm cider outside on a crisp and pretty fall day.  Okay, it wasn’t really like that at all. It was more like cutting tape off of a cardboard box and plowing through packing materials, but in my mind I was having a moment like this because the scents of this latest delivery (Pumpkin, Hearth and Vanilla Noir) are so seasonally amazing.

post No.745 all kinds of colorful

My two little guys have been sick for like almost 2 weeks and are just now finally on the mend! Let me just tell you that getting a good night’s sleep last night was like a rainbow after a storm for all of us. Here is my ‘all kinds of colorful’ post on some cheery things around the shop that are opposite of stuffed-up with a high fever.

post No.744 Crisp and Desky

I’m hunkering down at my desk today to concentrate on a crazy amount of emails and paperwork that have piling up. At this moment in time, my work space is a more than a tad cluttered – so one of my goals for today is to tame this wild beast and get it back to the way I like it. This morning I’m blogging on some desk things we have around the shop that are tidy and organized. It’s kind of like a mental cleansing to kick-start to my day.  Okay to be fair, my coffee helped with the the “kick” part as well.  Happy Tuesday!

post No.743 Paper Lovely

I’m up in Portland right now with a close friend and it’s feeling a lot like fall here. I’m guessing it’s probably like 80 these days in L.A so I’m soaking up the crisp air and getting an eye full of the gorgeous falling leaves while I have a chance!  Back at the shop we’re putting out some new lines on our shelves – one of which is this adorable letterpress greeting card lines called Paper Lovely. Without a doubt it’s a nice little addition to Urbanic.

Oh! and P.S you might have noticed I updated the look of the blog a little bit. Although not finalized, it’s a good temporary solution. I’m happily done with that smaller picture width once and for all!

post No.742 NYIGF recap

Hope you all had a good (and long) weekend! I wanted to give you a quick recap of my trip to the NY International Gift Fair a few weeks ago. This show happens twice a year, but the August show is my absolute favorite because  (a.) Summer in the city is the best (and b.) I was buying for our holiday season at Urbanic – which is hugely fun!  I picked out LOTS of pretty wrapping papers, holiday cards and well designed gifts of every sort.  The weather was perfect while I was there and I got to spend time with some of my East Coast friends, so it was a good trip all around. The shipments are starting to roll in now so get yourself into the shop sometime soon to see our latest!

When in NYC I usually stay at the Hudson. I love the location, the outdoor patio … aaaannd their Pimm’s Cups

.

Coolest wall map ever… It was kinda huge so I’m trying to see if they’ll  make a smaller print that we can sell in the shop.

I did a lot of damage in the Rifle Paper Booth. Wait until you see the 2013 city calendars. Out of control amazing!

We love having these Pensee pens at Urbanic. I ordered a bunch of new colors for fall.

The Rifle girls were giving out pins when I was in the booth. I chose these two since they seemed apropos for my commute to Williamsburg that night to see friends.

Edge painted double thick cotton card stock and colored graph paper desk jotters are coming in any day. I’m completely nerding out over this stuff.

Oh, it’s the little things. Shake Shack did not disappoint!

Excitement overload on some of the new titles we have coming in from Chronicle Books.

Bright colored cardboard coasters from RSP!

Screen printed tags from 1973. Oh, I ordered notebooks and wrap from them too.

Orla Kiely reversible wrapping paper. Need I say more?

It’s right around the corner so planners are in order. (rhyme not intentional but lets just go with it) .

post No.741 new from Susy Jack

I’m back from NYC and ready to blog my heart out on all of the latest happenings going on in the shop! Today’s feature is this new kitchen collection from Susy Jack. It’s been a total hit at Urbanic since we put it out on our shelves and I completely get why.  The line includes, wood recipe boxes, dish towels and recipe cards inspired by old traditions in the kitchen.  This is the kind of stuff that makes me want to hang out in my kitchen and bake cookies. (while blasting Sinatra of course).

post No.739 The Cream Event

For all of your East Coasters out there, tomorrow night is The Cream event in NYC.  We were booked to set up Urbanic there, but then had to cancel when we realized that little J started kindergarten that same day here in Los Angeles. (eeeeek! how does time fly by so fast?) Anyway, we’re bummed to miss it, but if you’re in the New York area you should totally go. It’s always a good time, and with this line-up it is sure to be a stellar event. Below are some photos of the Urbanic pop-up shop at the last event this past March in Culver City. Those were some good neon times all around!  haha!  Get your NYC tickets right here.

post No.738 Wild Horse Press

When I was 12 some of my very favorite things were my purple film camera, my picture locket necklace and my unicorn fringe shirt.  In May, I came across Wild Horse Press at the National Stationery Show and felt a flood of pre-teen nostalgia come over me.  The whimsical illustrations of this letterpress card line are absolutely adorable and a perfect new addition to Urbanic.
